AC motors current Rating Chart

AC Induction Motor Current Rating Chart (KW, HP, Amps)

Induction motors are the backbone of every industry and household. From small appliances (fractional kilowatt motors) to large industrial drives (up to 375 kW and above), induction motors are widely used because of their reliability and efficiency.

·         Low rating motors are available in single-phase (220V) versions for domestic and light commercial use.

·         High rating motors are mostly three-phase (415V) motors, suitable for industrial applications.

·         For very high power requirements, HT (High Tension) induction motors are used.

Below is the AC motors current rating chart for common motor sizes at 50 Hz supply frequency.

🔹 Key Notes on Motor Current Ratings

·         Single-phase induction motors are generally available only up to 7.5 kW, because higher ratings would require very large physical sizes and high starting currents.

·         Three-phase induction motors cover a wide range from fractional kW to 375 kW (and beyond, in HT range).

·         The above current ratings are based on 50 Hz frequency and standard efficiency levels.

·         In practice, actual current may vary depending on motor efficiency, power factor, and loading conditions.

🔹 Cable Selection for Motors

Choosing the right cable size is essential to avoid overheating and voltage drops. A detailed reference for motor cable sizing is available here:

Practical Tip: Always add a margin of 15–20% while selecting motor cables and protective devices to account for starting current surges.
