Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power

Every technology brings along with advantages and disadvantages but we adapt the technology if advantages are more than disadvantages. In this article we will study about solar energy advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of Solar energy:-

(i)                  Lower electricity cost:- Since in this energy, energy of sun is used for generation of electricity so electricity generated during that process is absolutely free and you can so much of electricity cost over the period of time.

(ii)                Renewable energy source:- Since in solar energy, sun light is used for generation of electricity so there is no thinking of conservation of any fuel.

(iii)               Lower maintenance charges:- There is only cleaning of solar panels which is required to be carried out as there are no moving parts as in case of power plants so there is little maintenance required for upkeep of solar panels.

(iv)              Ease of installation:- Unlike other power generating stations where lot of space and expertise required for generation of power, in solar power- solar panels can be installed anywhere even in house building roof tops and there of ease of installation.

(v)                No carbon footprints:- Since solar panels doesn’t require any fuel to get burned so there is there are zero carbon footprints which will improve the air quality and keep our environment clean and pollution free.

Disadvantages of Solar energy:-

(i)                 Higher initial installation cost:- Since solar panels is still at nascent stage although lot of development has been solar panels and pace of solar energy picked up , initial cost of solar panels is very high which required 5 years minimum period for recovery of solar panels costing.

(ii)               Dependability on weather:- Solar energy is dependent on solar light so solar power is dependent on weather during raining season you can’t be able to generate any electricity and even during winters when sun is available for lower time period power generation will get lowered.

(iii)             Space requirement:- For generation of solar energy there is requirement of huge space. For generation of 1 KW solar energy there is approximately requirement of 10 sqmeter space.

(iv)              Storage of solar energy is very expensive:- Since solar energy is generated only during day hours so in order to meet the 24 hours requirement from solar energy, lot of batteries are required to store the solar energy generated during day hours.

(v)                Lower efficiency:- Since solar panels function during day time and also there lower efficiency of solar panels.

Still there are so many advantages than disadvantages which is leading to adaptation of technology as solar panels are getting installed in even in villages where other power isn’t available at all or even lower power is available and even farmers are installing the solar panels in their fields to reap the advantages of solar energy and reducing their dependability on non-renewable energy sources.

People are now installing the solar panels on their building roof which apart from providing electricity will get their roof cool as there is no sun light directly heating up their buildings.

Further electricity cost from non-renewable energy sources is getting costlier every year but in solar panels there in no incremental cost at all. Even commercial establishments and housing societies are selling excess solar energy generated from solar panels when their offices are not working and lower consumption periods. Electricity companies also reducing their dependability from power generation plants by doing so.
