Maldives- Interesting Facts

1.       Maldives is a Muslim country and is very much particular about giving citizenship to outsiders as only Muslims will be called citizens of Maldives.

2.       Maldives area is only 297.8 square Km and is an island in Indian Ocean.



3.       Sri Soorudasaruna Adeettiya was said to be first king of island who was Indian. He was the Indian Prince and was exiled from Kingdom of Kalinga in around 270 BC. He was given the punishment to roam around the islands of Maldives. Maldives at that time was known as Dheeva Maari.

4.       Beaches of Maldives island are having white sand instead of yellow sand. The white sand is due to fact that sand is made out of coralline instead of quartz. Quartz make the sand yellow.

5.       Although this was established by Indian but now it has adopted Islam in 1153AD. No alcohol is allowed there openly and is available in resorts and clubs.

6.       There are about 1192 islands in Maldives.

7.       Here you can enjoy the following:-

(b)    Swimming with sharks where you will be put in to a cage.

8.       Maldives have population of only 5.40 lacs in Year 2020.

10.   Most of historical places in Maldives are Mosques.

11.   Maldives has an altitude of only 1.8 meters from sea level which makes it the flattest country in the world. Highest level from sea in whole country is only 2.3 meters. Next flattest country in the world is Qatar which has level of 28 meters.

12.   In Maldives there is holiday on Sunday instead there is holiday on Friday and Saturday.

13.   National flag of Maldives was adopted on 25th July 1965 and it was designed by Abdul Majeed Didi.

14.   Currency of Maldives is Maldivian Rufiyaa and is denoted as MVR.
