51 Shaktipeeths

 

Puranas have special significance in Hinduism. In these Puranas, there is a description of the Shaktipeeths of the Mother. According to the Puranas, wherever the parts of Goddess Sati's body parts, clothes and ornaments fell, they became the Shaktipeeths of the mother. These Shaktipeeths are spread all over the Indian subcontinent. 108 Shaktipeeths are mentioned in Devi Bhagwat and 72 Shaktipeeths in Devi Gita. Whereas 51 Shaktipeeths have been mentioned in Devi Purana. Come, know where are these Shaktipeeths:-

 1. Hinglaj Shaktipeeth

Hinglaj Shaktipeeth is situated 125 km North-East of Karachi. According to the Puranas, the head of the mother had fallen here.

 

2  Sharkarre (karveer)

Sharkarre Shaktipeet is located near Sukkar station in Karachi, Pakistan. Mother's eye had fallen here.

 

3. Sunda - Sunanda

Sondh River is about 20 km from Barisal in Shikarpur, Bangladesh. Maa Sugandha Shaktipeeth is situated near this river. It is said that the nose of the mother fell here.

 

4. Kashmir-Mahamaya

Mother's throat fell near Pahalgaon in Kashmir, India. This is where the Mahamaya Shaktipeeth was built.

 

5. Jawalamukhi

Mother's tongue had fallen in Kangra of Himachal Pradesh in India. It is called the place of fire.

 

6. Jalandhar-Tripurmalini

There is Devi Talab near Cantonment station in Jalandhar, Punjab. Here the mother's left Vaksh had fallen.

 

7. Vaidyanath - Jayadurga

Vaidyanathdham Dham is built in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Here the mother's heart had fallen.

 

8. Nepal - Mahamaya

Gujeshwari Temple is situated near Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal. Here both the knees of the mother had fallen.

 

9. Manas - Dakshayani

Mother's right hand had fallen on a stone rock near Manasa of Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet.

 

10. Virja - Virjakshetra

Mother's navel had fallen at the place of Utkal in Viraj in Orissa, India.

 

11. Gandaki - Gandaki

There is Muktinath temple situated at a place called Pokhara on the banks of river Gandaki in Nepal. Here Mother's head or Gandasthal i.e. temple had fallen.

 

12. Bahula-bahula (Chandika)

Mother's left hand had fallen on the banks of the Ajeya river near Katua Ketugram, 8 km from Vardhaman district in West Bengal, India.

 

13. Ujjayini - Mangalya Chandika

Mother's right wrist fell at a place called Ujjayini from Guskur station, 16 km from Vardhman district of West Bengal in India.

 

14. Tripura-Tripur Sundari

Mother's right foot had fallen on the Matabari mountain peak of Radhakishorepur village near Udarpur in the Indian state of Tripura.

 

15. Chattal - Bhavani

Mother's right arm fell in Chhatral (Chattal or Chahal) on Chandranath mountain peak near Sitakund station in Chittagong (Chittagong) district in Bangladesh.

 

16. Trisotra - Bhramari

29. Kalamadhav - Devi Kali

Mother's left buttock had fallen near the Shon river bank located in Kalmadhav of Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, there is a cave here.

 

30. Shondesh - Narmada (Shonakshi)

At the origin of Narmada in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, the right buttock of the mother had fallen at the place of Shondesh.

50. Nandipur - Nandini

Mother's neck necklace fell near a banyan tree in the boundary wall of Sainthia railway station Nandipur in Birbhum district of West Bengal.

 

51. Lanka - Indrakshi

It is believed that the mother's anklet may have fallen in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
