The Great Gama Pehalwan- Unknown Facts

 

In this article we will try to find most interesting facts about one of the greatest wrestler of all times known as “Gama Pehalwan”. He was later get known to the world as “The Great Gama”.

There are following interesting facts about this great personality: -

1.       He was born in Amritsar, Punjab in 1878.

2.       His original name was Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt.

3.       He became a sensation in just overnight he got a draw against the Rustam-e-Hind (The Great Championship) Raheem Baksh Sultaniwala.

4.       He hadn’t a great height as that of great wrestlers, he was having height only of 5’7”.

5.       You will have surprised to know that the height of Raheem Baksh Sultaniwala was 7’.



6.       He remained undefeated throughout his career of 52 years in wrestling.

7.       He was having weight of 113 Kg and get initial wrestling from his father naming as Mohammad Aziz Baksh.

8.       Throughout his wrestling career other wrestlers not even able to stand in ring even for a minute.

9.       He never gets defeated throughout his wrestling career and he retired at an age of 74 years in year 1952.

10.    The first wrestling against Sultaniwala was the longest battle between them. This lasts over 2 hours. He was the few of the wrestlers which he couldn’t be able to defeat and even accepted that Sultaniwala was the competitor he had ever faced.

11.   He defeated even Frank Gotch, Stanislaus Zbyszko, Benjamin Roller, Johann Lemm a European Champion and Switzerland’s Maurice Deriaz and even they can’t able to stand in bout for more than few minutes.

12.   He won the world heavyweight champion title in 1910.

13.   He drinks 10 liters of milk every day and he even 6 chickens every day.

14.   He also made a drink with 200 gm of Almonds so that he gets stronger.

15.   He was so much stronger that he can even lift a weight of 1200 kg.

16.   He daily does wrestling with his 40 team members he daily does 5000 up downs (Squats), 3000 pushups.

17.   During partition time he shifted to Karachi and even started his bus Service naming as “Gama Transport service”

18.   He died in Year 1960 at an age of 82 as he was suffering from Asthma and Heart decease.   

19.   At National Institute of Sports Museum, Patiala there is a “Hasli” placed of The Great Gamma with whom he does his exercise.

20.   Prince of wales presented a Silver club during his visit in 1922 in India to The Great Gama.

21.   He was had 5 sons and 4 daughters and all of his sons get died at very young age and when his youngest son dies in year 1945 he lost his power of speech. His son was only 13 years old that time.

22.   On May 23, 2022 on his 144 birthday Google dedicated his Doodle to The Great Gama.

23.   Even Bruce Lee took some of his moves from Gama and he had his inspiration from The Great Gama.

24.   He lifted 1200 kg of stone when he was just 20 years old and he lifted that stone at Baroda Museum In Sayajibaug.
