Things to remember after Purchasing an Electric Vehicle
In India, electric two-wheeler industry is booming, more and more people
are shifting to electric two wheelers due to increased petrol cost and government
incentives on electric vehicles. Since electric vehicles are new to everyone
and there are following things which are required to be kept in mind while purchasing
an electric vehicle.
1. Charge the
vehicle up to Hours as recommended by OEM (Original equipment manufacturer):-
Whenever you buy a vehicle, do ask the dealer or any
technical expert available there for no. of hours for which vehicle is required
to charge and do ask for auto cut of electric supply after charging the
vehicle. Don’t over charge your vehicle beyond that point even though there
will be auto cut of point as some times auto cut off doesn’t work and that may
damage your vehicle.
2. Always purchase
OEM recommended charger, Cable:-
Although supplier do provide the charger along with
cable for charging for vehicle as free of cost with vehicle. But you have
doubly check before leaving the dealer as sometimes they might give you other
chargers which are recommended for other OEMs vehicles.
Also, check for correct voltage range required for the
charger for charging of vehicles and do check for the same from where you are
going to charge your vehicle. Always charge the vehicle from the stable voltage
source as fluctuating voltages may damage your charger and lower down the life
of battery of vehicle.
3. Always
store the charger in dry place:-
Electric chargers are having electronic circuits for
always store the charger at dry place and pack the charger properly do not pack
the charger the in hurry as charger is lifeline of your vehicle.
4. Charge your
vehicle regularly even when not in use:-
As in case of petrol/ Diesel vehicles where you have
to start the vehicle after 3-4 days even when it is not use for charging the
battery of vehicle, similar is the case with electric vehicles. Electric
vehicles required extra precaution as battery is main source for driving the
vehicle and if vehicle is not charged at regular intervals then battery might
go into deep discharge and which required extra effort for charging the
vehicle.
5. Don’t immediate
rush of charging of vehicle when battery is too hot:-
When keep on driving your vehicle for long distance and
your vehicle battery get heated up in that scenario do not rush of charging the
vehicle, do wait for some time so that battery get cooled off thereafter only
you can put the vehicle on charge. As sometime putting the vehicle on charging
when battery is already overheated it may damage the battery and even damage
the vehicle.
6. Regular
maintenance of vehicles:-
Although there isn’t huge maintenance requirement in
electric vehicle but there are following which are required to do on regular
basis for smooth functioning and increased mileage from your vehicle;-
(a)
Maintain
tyre pressure in vehicle.
(b)
Clean
battery in every 2-3 days so that there will not any deposits at battery
terminals.
(c)
Don’t carry
extra weight on your vehicle.
(d)
Power off
your vehicle when not in use.
(e)
Switch off
your vehicle at red lights.
(f)
Keep
lubricating moving parts of vehicle.
7. Don’t try
to full charge the battery every time:-
Always charge the battery to 90-95% as 100% charging will
required lot of time and even consume lot of electricity while charging from
95% to 100%. This doesn’t implies that you do not charge the battery to 100%,
when you are going for long distances than do charge the battery to 100%.
Battery chargers are designed in such a way that they will charge your vehicle
form 30% to 80% more quicker than from 80% to 100%.
